Keynote Speaker: Dr. Viet Thanh Nguyen

Our conference is proud to feature keynote speaker, Dr. Viet Thanh Nguyen, Associate Professor of English and American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California and author of Race and Resistance: Literature and Politics in Asian America (2002).

Dr. Nguyen traverses genres and takes a voyage of his own with his new fictional novel, The Sympathizer, available April 2015. Considered a black comedy, historical novel, and literary thriller, The Sympathizer is the story of a communist spy who flees with the south Vietnamese to America after the fall of Saigon. Set in Vietnam, Guam, Los Angeles, the Philippines, Thailand, and Laos, the novel is about the voyages of a man across worlds, torn between his feelings and his beliefs.
